The KIDS OF UKRAINE Charitable Foundation team took part in the presentation of the research findings titled “Mismatch: The Gap Between Young People’s Career Aspirations and Labour Market Needs.” The event was held at the Andrey Sheptytsky Center of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU).
The research, conducted by the “A City Has Me” urban initiative in partnership with UCU, explored the gap between the career aspirations of today’s youth and the actual needs of the labour market.
During the presentation, experts highlighted a key paradox: many young people choose careers with high public visibility — such as IT, psychology, marketing, and law — creating an oversupply of candidates for available positions. At the same time, employers face a critical shortage of specialists in strategically important sectors, including engineering, energy, healthcare, agriculture, and the defence industry.
For our foundation, participating in discussions like these is especially valuable. Through the “SviTY” program, we help teenagers build emotional resilience and prepare for the future. Understanding labour market trends enables us to continuously adapt our programs, helping young people make informed career choices and build a strong foundation for their future.
We sincerely thank the organizers for the invitation, the valuable research, and the meaningful discussion.
